Applied Atomics Licenses mPower Reactor Technology from BWX Technologies
The exclusive land-based deployment agreement covers the U.S., Canada and other markets, while BWX retains manufacturing and IP ownership.
Applied Atomics has secured exclusive rights to develop and deploy BWX Technologies' mPower small modular reactor technology across land-based commercial nuclear facilities in the United States, Canada and other markets.
The licensing agreement grants Applied Atomics commercial development and deployment authority for the mPower platform in those geographies. BWX Technologies, a publicly traded nuclear technology firm, retains full ownership of the mPower intellectual property alongside exclusive manufacturing rights for all mPower components.
Under the terms, BWX Technologies also maintains royalty rights for any components manufactured by Applied Atomics or third parties, creating a revenue stream tied to deployment volumes across the licensed territories.
The deal reflects the growing market focus on small modular reactors as a lower-capital alternative to conventional nuclear plants. By licensing rather than acquiring the technology outright, Applied Atomics gains immediate access to an established platform while BWX Technologies preserves control over manufacturing and receives ongoing compensation as deployments scale.
Small modular reactors have attracted increasing attention from utilities and industrial operators seeking to decarbonize operations without the construction timelines and capital requirements of large nuclear facilities. The exclusive deployment rights position Applied Atomics to establish itself as a primary commercialization partner for mPower technology in key North American markets.
