Episcope Hospitality Opens Italian Wine Bar at National Landing in Arlington

Altitude, a new Italian restaurant and wine bar from Episcope Hospitality, opened this month at 2011 Crystal Drive in Arlington, Virginia, marking the operator's entry into Northern Virginia's dining market. The concept combines a chef-driven kitchen with approximately 70 wines by the bottle and 20 by the glass, overseen by an on-premises sommelier, alongside a vinyl library housed in a dedicated listening room.

The space draws design inspiration from midcentury airline aesthetics, a reference to the venue's proximity to Reagan National Airport. A signature bar mimics an airplane wing cross-section, while custom furnishings evoke the in-flight lounges of the 1950s and 60s. The beverage program extends beyond wine to include house cocktails such as the 'Autodromo,' a spritz honoring Emilia-Romagna's Formula 1 heritage, and the 'Acido e Classico,' a New York sour with Italian inflections.

Chefs Mariela Pacheco and Andres Lopez lead the kitchen after tenures in acclaimed Washington institutions, including D.C.'s Pineapple and Pearls. The menu emphasizes balance between raw and aged preparations, ranging from crudos and handmade pastas to aged cheeses and aged vinegars. Signature dishes include Ricotta Gnocchi with brown butter and sage, and Grilled Branzino with shaved fennel salad and citrus.

Altitude's location places it adjacent to the forthcoming Crystal City to Reagan National Airport Multimodal Connection pedestrian bridge, which will connect the airport to National Landing. The site also sits near planned Virginia Railway Express and Amtrak rail infrastructure and across from a planned 330-key hotel. David Morton, founder of Episcope Hospitality, stated that the concept was designed to provide Northern Virginia "a distinct experience, designed for lingering evenings and connection."

Episcopal Hospitality operates restaurants, rooftops, lounges, and streetside cafes across prominent urban markets including Chicago, New York City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Northern Virginia, working primarily through large-scale collaborations with leading developers. The company's portfolio approach targets the hospitality and mixed-use development sector, with venues embedded in hotels, residential towers, and office buildings.

The opening positions Altitude to benefit from anticipated transportation infrastructure completion in the National Landing corridor, which may drive both foot traffic and real estate value in the adjacent mixed-use development.
