Eton Pharmaceuticals and Aquestive Therapeutics have signed an exclusive licensing agreement for LIBERVANT (diazepam) buccal film in the United States and its territories. The arrangement includes a supply agreement and covers an Orphan Drug-designated treatment for seizure clusters in patients with epilepsy.

Under the terms of the deal, Eton assumes commercial responsibility for LIBERVANT in the U.S. market. The company anticipates bringing the product to market in April 2027, pending final FDA approval.

The licensing structure allows Eton, a pharmaceutical company based in Deer Park, Illinois, that focuses on rare disease treatments, to expand its portfolio into the seizure management category. Aquestive Therapeutics, headquartered in Warren, New Jersey, developed the buccal film formulation, a delivery technology the company has advanced across its pipeline.

LIBERVANT's orphan designation reflects the product's potential to address an unmet need in a limited patient population. The buccal film format—absorbed through the oral mucosa—represents a delivery mechanism distinct from traditional diazepam formulations for acute seizure intervention.

For Eton, the license represents a significant near-term commercial opportunity, with the product expected to reach pharmacies and clinical settings within months of final regulatory clearance. For Aquestive, the agreement transfers U.S. commercialization obligations while maintaining supply responsibilities.

The transaction marks a consolidation trend within specialty pharmaceuticals, where companies with orphan drug expertise license assets from developers with platform technologies to accelerate market entry.
