Hilton Garden Inn Midtown East Completes Renovation With Convertible Rooms
The 207-room hotel introduces flexible accommodations and a new restaurant concept as it repositions for corporate and leisure travelers in Manhattan.
Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Midtown East has completed a property-wide renovation that introduces convertible guestrooms, a redesigned lobby, and a new restaurant concept intended to serve both hotel guests and local residents.
The project, designed by Baskervill, touched all aspects of the 207-room hotel in Midtown East. The renovation includes 14 convertible room types with integrated wall beds that shift between living, working, and sleeping configurations. The hotel says it is currently the only Hilton Garden Inn property to offer these convertible-style accommodations. Workspace Rooms, designed for corporate guests and remote professionals, feature expansive work surfaces and a 55-inch HDTV with seamless HDMI connectivity. The conference table folds away to reveal a king bed. Studio Rooms serve longer-stay guests, traveling families, and visitors, functioning as a residential living area by day and transforming into a bedroom at night. Both room types can connect with adjacent guestrooms to form multi-room suites.
All 207 guestrooms were upgraded with stylish furnishings, larger work surfaces, dedicated work areas, and Hospitality Centers with microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffee makers. Rooms include conveniently placed charging ports, adjustable reading lamps, laptop-sized safes, blackout curtains, Digital Key access, complimentary Wi-Fi, and 55-inch HDTVs with streaming capabilities and premium channels. Select accommodations offer city views, outdoor terraces, dedicated meeting or work areas, and connecting-room configurations.
The Back Room Restaurant & Bar serves as the social hub, open for breakfast, dinner, and evening cocktails. The menu features a Back Room Smash Burger, carbonata pasta, grilled salmon, and New York-style cheesecake, along with cocktails and interactive games. The space includes original wood wall paneling, an elevated bar, pool table, and arcade games. A commissioned art piece titled Speakeasy Subway depicts a vintage underground party scene aboard a New York City subway. The hotel also offers a Call & Collect service for room delivery and takeout.
The renovation emphasizes sustainability and wellness. In partnership with Mindclick, the hotel incorporated responsibly sourced, low-impact materials including reclaimed wood fiber furnishings, recycled nylon carpeting, GREENGUARD-certified furniture, and low-VOC finishes. Energy-efficient LED lighting was installed throughout. AtmosAir air-purification technology was installed in every guestroom and public area, continuously treating indoor air to reduce allergens, pollutants, and odors.
Joel Ruiz, General Manager of Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Midtown East, said the renovation was designed to meet how people gather, work, and travel today. The redesigned hotel positions itself as a destination for overnight guests seeking a Manhattan base and local residents looking for a place to dine or unwind. The flexible room configurations and restaurant amenities signal a broader industry shift toward accommodations that serve multiple traveler needs simultaneously.
