Potomac Hotel Joins Marriott's Autograph Collection in Strategic Rebrand
The 373-room Washington waterfront property, formerly Salamander Washington DC, shifts management to Pyramid Global Hospitality while retaining Chef Kwame Onwua
The Potomac Hotel, Autograph Collection officially debuted today, marking a significant repositioning of the Henderson Park-owned waterfront asset in Washington, D.C. The property, formerly known as Salamander Washington DC, has transitioned into Marriott's Autograph Collection while moving to management by Pyramid Global Hospitality.
The 373-room hotel now offers access to Marriott Bonvoy® membership, providing guests earning potential, exclusive member rates, room upgrades, and related loyalty benefits. The shift represents a strategic evolution rather than an operational overhaul, preserving the property's existing amenities and service model while expanding its distribution and revenue channels through Marriott's global platform.
The hotel retains its core hospitality infrastructure, including 38,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, a dual-level spa, heated indoor pool, and fitness center. More significantly, it continues to house Dōgon, the Afro-Caribbean restaurant led by Chef Kwame Onwuachi. Since opening in 2024, Dōgon has accumulated substantial accolades: recognition on Condé Nast Traveler's Hot List of the World's Best Restaurants (2025), ranking among North America's 50 Best Restaurants (2026), inclusion on Food & Wine's Global Tastemakers list of the Top U.S. Restaurants (2026), and recognition among Washingtonian's Top 10 Restaurants in Washington, D.C. Onwuachi himself holds credentials including the James Beard Foundation's Rising Star Chef of the Year (2019) and placement on TIME's 100 Most Influential People (2025).
Bertrand Mangeot, Managing Director of The Potomac Hotel, emphasized continuity of service: "Our dedicated and long-tenured staff will continue creating thoughtful, personalized experiences that reflect both the character of our destination and the genuine hospitality that has always been at the heart of our hotel." Nick Weber, CEO of Henderson Park, which acquired the property in 2022, framed the transition as an extension of ongoing value enhancement efforts. Salamander Collection Founder and CEO Sheila Johnson maintains a minority partnership stake alongside Henderson Park.
Located along the Southwest waterfront between the National Mall and The Wharf, the hotel is positioned fifteen minutes from Reagan National Airport and within walking distance of major cultural institutions including the Smithsonian Museums, the Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. The repositioning aligns with Henderson Park's broader strategy of acquiring premium-tier properties in primary markets and optimizing performance through brand partnerships and capital allocation. The firm's hospitality portfolio now exceeds five billion dollars across North American and European markets.
The Autograph Collection integration provides Henderson Park access to Marriott's corporate travel relationships and event distribution channels, particularly relevant for a property positioned to serve the Washington, D.C. business travel market. The retention of Dōgon and its culinary momentum offers differentiation within Autograph Collection's portfolio of independent-minded properties.
