Sphere to Stage Rocky Horror Picture Show Experience in 2027
Wizard of Oz immersive production crosses $400M in ticket sales and 3M total attendees since August 2025 launch.
Sphere Entertainment Co. will produce a new immersive experience centered on The Rocky Horror Picture Show, set to open in 2027 at its Las Vegas venue. The production represents an expansion of Sphere Studios' slate of original content and marks the company's second major film-based immersion after the commercial success of The Wizard of Oz at Sphere.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show experience will be developed in special arrangement with Primary Wave Music and 20th Century Studios. Sphere's technical capabilities—including its signature LED display and spatial audio systems—will enhance the 1975 film for a venue-specific adaptation. Jim Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment, stated the production aims to "take that spirit of immersion to an entirely new level," referencing the original film's cultural legacy around audience participation since its 1975 premiere.
The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, which opened in Las Vegas on August 28th, 2025, has generated over $400 million in ticket sales and sold more than 3 million total tickets, according to Sphere Entertainment. The performance establishes a commercial benchmark for immersive film experiences at scale and suggests demand for the format. Tickets for The Wizard of Oz at Sphere remain on sale through thesphere.com.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show joins Postcard from Earth and The Wizard of Oz at Sphere as part of the company's slate under The Sphere Experience brand. Sphere's strategy of adapting recognizable intellectual property through its proprietary technology positions the venue as a specialized exhibition format rather than a conventional cinema or concert hall.
Sphere Entertainment trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SPHR. Additional information about The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sphere is available through the company's newsletter signup at thesphere.com.
The commercial trajectory of The Wizard of Oz suggests the company has identified a viable economic model for legacy content repackaged through immersive technology, potentially opening new licensing opportunities with studios holding substantial film catalogs.
