The Luxury Collection Launches Expeditions Program Beyond Hotel Stays
New offering extends brand's cultural positioning through guided journeys, private itineraries, and day experiences across 130+ properties worldwide.
The Luxury Collection announced the launch of The Luxury Collection Expeditions, a new program that moves beyond traditional hotel-based travel to offer immersive cultural experiences rooted in destination expertise. The initiative reflects a strategic shift for the Marriott International brand to position each of its more than 130 hotels and resorts across over 40 countries and territories as a gateway to deeper engagement with local heritage, practices, and landscapes.
The program operates through three distinct offerings. Private Tailored Journeys are bespoke multi-day itineraries connecting multiple Luxury Collection hotels with private transportation and local expertise. Japan: The Imperial Journey spans 10 days across Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nara, featuring access to samurai residences, temple spaces, and geiko dinners in Gion, connected by chauffeured transfers and Green Car rail travel. Italy: The Grand Italia Rally positions guests behind the wheel of a classic Italian automobile on a six-night route from Milan to Venice and Florence, guided through Franciacorta, Lake Garda, Tuscany, and the Ligurian coast. Greece: The Aegean Odyssey connects Mykonos, Paros, and Santorini over nine days via private helicopter and yacht travel, pairing archaeological access at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Delos with wine tastings and culinary experiences.
Day Discoveries offer single-day experiences anchored to specific cultural practices. At Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto, Farm to Fermentation traces the city's preservation culture through agricultural landscapes and fermentation workshops limited to four guests, concluding with teppanyaki dinner. The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort, Scottsdale provides access to the Desert Botanical Garden and a private tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West, followed by farm-to-table dining. At Bab Samhan, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Diriyah, Doors of Diriyah guides guests through the UNESCO-listed A-Turaif district and incorporates heritage cooking and artisan painting workshops.
Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, The Luxury Collection, stated: "At The Luxury Collection, we have long believed that a destination reveals itself through its people, rituals, and landscapes, and through the knowledge passed down over time. Expeditions are a natural expression of that belief, inviting our guests to venture beyond the walls of their hotel and into the living fabric of a place, where expert guidance and cultural context foster a deeper and more personal understanding of a destination." The program pairs cultural access with curated accommodations and service delivery across the brand's portfolio.
The Luxury Collection operates within Marriott International's premium portfolio, competing in a market where affluent travelers increasingly seek substantive engagement with destinations rather than leisure consumption alone. The Expeditions program addresses this shift by leveraging the brand's existing hotel infrastructure as a distribution mechanism for experiential offerings, potentially creating new revenue streams beyond room sales while deepening brand loyalty among high-net-worth travelers.
